'This village is on Waqf's land, empty or not…' 150 houses notices, the villagers said- we have government paper

There was a dispute over the recent Waqf law in Tiruchendurai village of Tamil Nadu. Now Syed Ali Sultan Shah Dargah has issued notice by Syed Ali Sultan Shah Dargah in Katikollai village in Anakattu taluka in Vellore district. More than 150 families have been sent notice in Kattukukolai village of Vellore district saying that their property is of Waqf.

In the notice issued by the dargah, the villagers were asked to make a formal agreement with the Waqf and pay the rent of the land to the Dargah Planning. Not only this, in the event of not paying rent, it has also been asked to vacate the land. It has been said in the notice that if this is not done, then the land will be considered encroachment and they will be withdrawn under Waqf laws.

Outrage in families after receiving notice

There is anger among the villagers after receiving notice from the dargah. He marched to Vellore District Collector Office in this matter. Also demanded immediate intervention in this matter from Vellore District Collector. At the same time, VR Subbulakshmi, District Collector of Vellore, has interacted with villagers and caretaker of Dargah F Syed Saatham to find a cordial solution to the problem. The district administration has asked the villagers not to pay rent at present.

What the villagers said

Villagers say that they have been living in the village for the last four generations. They have documents to show that the land on which they have their houses belong to them. A villagers said that our land is registered. We are paying water tax, but now we have been given notice that this land is the property of Waqf.

Controversy has not spread for the first time

Let me tell you that this is not the first time that such a dispute has erupted. Earlier in the year 2022, the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board claimed that it had about 400 acres of land including the temple of Chola Yuga in Thiruchendurai village in Tiruchirappalli district. However, later the state government intervened in this matter and the matter was resolved.
