Free electricity from EV policy… Rekha Gupta cabinet meeting will be approved on these issues

The Delhi cabinet will have a big meeting tomorrow. In this, the cabinet will be stamped on the issue of electricity subsidy. The Delhi Cabinet on Thursday approved the continuation of the power subsidy scheme for the financial year 2024-25, which was fixed till 31 March. In the meeting to be held on Tuesday, this scheme will be extended further. Under this, the state government provides free electricity to the families consuming less than 200 units and only 201-400 units give 50% subsidy to the families using.

The EV policy of the Delhi government will also be discussed in the cabinet meeting. These points will be discussed in the EV policy.

  1. CNG Auto Rickshaw (L5N): From 15 August 2025, new CNG auto-rickshaw will not be registered.
  2. All CNG auto permits will be replaced with only e-auto permits from 15 August 2025.
  3. It will be mandatory to replace CNG auto-rickshaws older than 10 years with electric auto-rickshaws.
  4. Two-wheelers: From 15 August 2026, petrol/diesel/CNG vehicles will not be registered.
  5. Three-wheel vehicles (LSN): From 15 August 2025, registration of diesel/petrol/CNG three-wheel vehicles will stop.
  6. Four-wheel vehicle (N1): All garbage collecting vehicles will be converted into electric vehicles in a phased manner and 100% electric target will be achieved by 31 December 2027.

Intra-City City Bus

  1. Special encouragement for women: Residents of Delhi women who have a valid driving license will get a subsidy of ₹ 10,000 per KWH, a maximum of ₹ 30,000 for purchasing electric two-wheelers (E-2).
  2. This benefit will be available to the first 10,000 women who will buy E-2W in Delhi.
  3. Road tax and registration fee exemption: The complete exemption in road tax and registration fees of all electric vehicles will continue.
  4. Special permission to the cargo EV: Electric L5N and N1 category cargo vehicles will now be free from the prohibition of running and parking on the identified roads of Delhi.
  5. Complete electrification target: 100% bus transport will be electrified in Delhi by 2027.
    From now on, only electric or alternative fuel buses will be procured.
  6. Electrification of bus depot: The state government will invest capital for electrification of all 70 bus depots in Delhi.
  7. Integration of renewable energy: By 2026, the power required for 50% of the day and 25% e-bus at night will be taken from renewable sources.
  8. Solar panels will be installed on the roofs of all depots and departmental offices.
  9. Interoperability of charging infrastructure: Charging infrastructure for all e-bus operators will be shared.
  10. Electrification of school buses: INR 15,000/KWH subsidy for each e-school bus, maximum INR up to 15 lakhs.
  11. This benefit is limited to maximum two buses for each school.
  12. This incentive will apply to the initial 50 e-school buses.
  13. Charging according to Time of Day (Tod) tariff: E-bus charging will be adapted to do non-pair of hours, so that the electricity rates remain low.

Now it will be interesting to see which of these issues are stamped by the cabinet.
