3 killed, 18 policemen injured, Central Force posted… Murshidabad did not stop

Three people were allegedly killed and 18 policemen were injured in the violence erupted over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Friday. In connection with the violence, 150 people have been arrested since Friday. After the order of the Calcutta High Court on Saturday, central forces have been deployed in violence affected areas. A bench of the High Court also directed the central forces and the state police to file separate reports on 17 April.

The DGP of West Bengal informed that the situation is tense but under control and it is being monitored strictly. The DGP further said that they are taking the help of BSF posted at the local level and more than 150 people have been arrested.

The Union Home Secretary clearly stated that along with about 300 BSF personnel as well as additional 5 companies have been deployed in Murshidabad.

The Union Home Secretary advised the state administration to take a close watch on other sensitive districts and to take adequate steps to ensure normal status at the earliest.
