
Years -old and famous Banarasi Paan and Banarasi lame mangoes are very popular at the moment. These are two products that have received a geographical identity (GI) tag. They are from Uttar Pradesh and three of these products are from Varanasi alone. So far, UP has 45 GI properties, of which 20 are from Varanasi region of eastern UP. So far, 441 Indian products and 34 foreign products have been certified by GI Registry.
Apart from Paan and Mango, another famous agricultural product from Varanasi, Bhanta (brinjal) of Ramnagar has also been given GI certification. The ‘Adamachini Rice’ (rice) of the neighboring district Chandauli was associated with the GI club a month ago. The inclusion of these new items in the GI Club will greatly boost the agriculture and horticulture sector of Varanasi.
According to the GI Registry, 33 products include 10 new certified goods of UP, Aligarh Tala, Bakharia Brass utensils, Banda Shajar Patra Shilp, Nagina Wood Craft, Pratapgarh’s Amla, Hathras of Hathras, Lame Mango of Banaras, Bhanta of Ramnagar. , Muzaffarnagar jaggery and Banarasi leaves are included.
