an important transport corridor

In her letter, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that the approximately 8.8 km long Mandi Road is a very important transport corridor of the Delhi-NCR area. This road connects Mehrauli-Gurugram Road (NH-148A) near Chhatarpur Metro Station with Gurugram-Faridabad Road at the Delhi-Haryana border.

Delhi CM said that this road is an important link connecting the capital Delhi with neighboring economic centers like Gurugram and Faridabad. Besides, it also plays a big role in facilitating the movement of traffic between states.

UTTIPEC has also given approval

He mentioned in his letter that the governing body of Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Center (UTTIPEC) has also recognized the importance of Mandi Road. In its 68th meeting held on September 27, 2023, UTTIPEC had supported the proposal for widening of this road and its complete development.

Why should NHAI get the responsibility?

CM Rekha Gupta said that considering the strategic importance of this corridor, present and future traffic needs and direct connectivity with National Highway-148A, Mandi Road should be brought under the purview of NHAI. The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to declare Mandi Road as a National Highway and the responsibility of its development should be handed over to NHAI. With this, an integrated plan can be prepared, uniform engineering standards can be adopted and timely upgradation of this important corridor can be ensured.

He said that this initiative will provide better and easier traffic facilities to the daily commuters using this route. This will further strengthen connectivity in Delhi-NCR and will also give new impetus to regional economic development. The Chief Minister of Delhi urged the Union Minister to consider this proposal positively. He expressed hope that there will be continuous support in furthering the development of this important corridor.
