Aditya Thackeray demands from Election Commission to extend the time for voter list survey by 10 days. Aaditya Thackeray Urges Ec For 10 Day Extension For Electoral Roll Revision

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray met the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra. He has sought an extension of 10 days for the Voter List Survey (SIR), citing heavy rains and redevelopment. He also expressed concern over duplicate names.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [भारत]July 9 (ANI): Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday met Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and urged the Election Commission to grant a 10-day extension for the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of voter lists in the state.

The UBT Sena leader asked the Maharashtra CEO to resolve the logistical challenges faced in the calculations under the SIR exercise, citing heavy rains and large-scale redevelopment taking place. Thackeray said his party has been continuously raising concerns over the SIR process and cases of duplicate names in the voter list for the last one year. He said that during the meeting, the party delegation presented three major demands aimed at making the enumeration process more practical and accessible to both residents and officials.

He also highlighted that due to redevelopment projects in Mumbai and other cities in Maharashtra, many residents are living in transit camps or rented accommodation.

Rain and redevelopment become a big challenge

Stating that the party has sought extension of the ongoing enumeration exercise due to incessant rains and difficulties faced by enumerators and residents, Thackeray said, “In the past one year, we have often raised concerns over matters of SIR and duplicate names. Today, we presented three special demands. First, in view of the rains for the last ten days as well as the ongoing enumeration process, we have requested an extension of ten days. In such weather conditions, it is not possible to conduct the enumeration.” Nor is it possible for civilian employees, government employees or teachers to travel. Second, there is massive redevelopment going on in Mumbai and other cities, and many residents are currently living in transit camps or rented accommodation elsewhere.”

Aditya Thackeray gave these suggestions

Thackeray argued that setting up dedicated counting booths at redevelopment sites would ensure that displaced residents are not left out of the voter list revision process. He also suggested that housing societies could serve as efficient centers for enumeration by coordinating with their managing committees.

Aditya Thackeray told reporters, “We have proposed to set up enumeration booths at the redevelopment sites themselves to ease the process for both residents and employees. Thirdly, given the presence of housing societies in Mumbai and other cities, the enumeration can be completed in a single day by coordinating with the president and secretary of the society.”

ECI has released this schedule

According to ECI, the calculation will be completed by July 24. The draft list will be published on August 5, with claims and objections open from August 5 to September 4. The final list will be published on October 7. (ANI)
