Chhattisgarh government has taken a big decision for unorganized workers. The grant of E-Rickshaw Assistance Scheme has been increased to Rs 1 lakh. New schemes will be prepared for gig workers, shepherds and meritorious children. E-KYC and Aadhaar based registration of all workers will also be mandatory.

Chhattisgarh government has taken a big step towards connecting workers in the unorganized sector with social security and self-employment. Many important decisions were taken in the first meeting of Chhattisgarh Unorganized Workers State Social Security Board held under the chairmanship of Labor Minister Lakhanlal Dewangan. These include increasing the grant of e-rickshaw assistance scheme, preparing new schemes for gig workers and shepherds and starting work on a comprehensive insurance system for workers.

E-rickshaw assistance scheme grant doubled

The biggest decision in the meeting was taken regarding the e-rickshaw assistance scheme. Now the grant amount received under this scheme has been directly increased from Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1 lakh. The government believes that this will greatly help the workers in the unorganized sector to start self-employment and will increase their economic self-reliance.

New initiative for gig workers, shepherds and meritorious children

The state government is now preparing to bring new sections of the unorganized sector also under the ambit of social security. A separate welfare scheme will be made for gig workers doing delivery work. A special plan will be prepared for the social and economic development of the shepherds. Apart from this, it has also been decided to bring a new incentive scheme to encourage the meritorious children of unorganized workers in the field of education.

Emphasis on e-KYC and Aadhaar based registration

In the meeting, the Labor Minister instructed the officials to ensure 100 percent e-KYC and Aadhaar based registration of all the workers registered with the board. Its objective is to deliver the benefits of the schemes only to the eligible beneficiaries in a transparent manner. Along with this, instructions were also given to prepare pamphlets and pictorial booklets for wide publicity of the schemes and to resolve the applications in a timely manner.

Comprehensive insurance scheme also discussed

Preparation of a comprehensive insurance scheme to provide better social security to the workers was also discussed in detail. The objective of the government is to provide a security cover to the workers in the unorganized sector in case of economic crisis, so that they and their families can remain more secure.

Many senior officials were present in the first meeting

In this first meeting held at Mahanadi Bhawan, Mandal member and MLA Chaitram Atami, MLA Sushant Shukla, Labor Department Secretary Himshikhar Gupta, Commerce and Industry Department Secretary Rajat Kumar, Additional Labor Commissioner S.L. Many senior officials of the Finance Department, Life Insurance Corporation of India and Labor Department were present including Jangde. The government says that in the coming times, through these decisions, the scope of social security for unorganized workers will be further strengthened.
