This step is an important part of the Delhi EV Policy 2026, which aims to make the capital a major hub of the country in terms of sustainable and electric mobility.
Four times increase in charging network
There are currently thousands of public charging points in Delhi, but the government wants to increase this network by almost four times in the next four years. These new charging stations will be installed in places like residential colonies, commercial areas, metro stations, public parking and major transport corridors so that EV users can get easy charging facilities.
Focus will be on fast charging
In this new policy, special emphasis has been laid on fast-charging infrastructure, so that the time taken to charge vehicles is reduced and people get convenience. Officials have been directed to use advanced charging technology and partner with private operators to create a reliable charging ecosystem. This network will support both private and commercial electric vehicles.
EV adopters will get a boost
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that expansion of charging infrastructure is necessary to achieve the government’s target under which more than 30% people will adopt EV by 2030. This policy also includes steps like rebate on purchasing electric vehicle, waiver in vehicle tax, benefits on scrapping old vehicle and simplifying the approval process.
Delhi will become clean and green
This expansion of charging infrastructure is part of Delhi’s clean mobility strategy. Its main objective is to reduce air pollution and dependence on traditional fuels like petrol and diesel. Along with running electric buses and giving discounts to EV buyers, the government is hoping that the better charging network will make electric vehicles more practical for people in everyday use and will also clean the city’s air.
