Bihar River Accident: A major accident took place in Barh area of Patna on Thursday morning. Here a boat going from Umanath Ganga Ghat towards Diara overturned in the Ganga river. There is news of 7 people drowning in this accident. Officials said that there were a total of 14 people on the boat. Out of these, 7 people were saved safely, but the whereabouts of 7 people are not known. So far, two bodies have been recovered, while a search operation is being conducted to find the remaining 5 missing people.

Patna Collector and SP on the spot after the accident
- As soon as the news of the accident was received, Rural SP Kundan Kumar and District Magistrate Thiagarajan SM reached the spot. They are taking stock of the situation and monitoring the rescue operations.
- Speaking to reporters, Patna DM and Collector Thiagarajan SM said, “We received information about a boat capsizing around 5:30-6:00 am… Two bodies have been recovered and five people are missing. Search operations are underway…”
- Officials also said that the issue of unregistered boats plying in the area is also being addressed. To prevent such accidents in future, action will be taken against those who violate the rules.
Eyewitness told how people drowned in one stroke
- An eyewitness said that there were mostly women on the boat, who were crossing the river to bring vegetables. This incident happened at around 5:00 in the morning. According to eyewitnesses, the boat overturned in the middle of the river, due to which many passengers drowned.
- An eyewitness told ANI, “We left around 5:00 in the morning. More than 10 to 15 people were going to bring vegetables. While crossing, the boat capsized in front of us. Three-four people somehow escaped, but six-seven people drowned. So far only one has been found, the rest are in the water.”
- The eyewitness further said that there were several women on the boat and some were rescued while unconscious. “Most of them were women. There were about five-six women. Four women have been taken out. Two are unconscious and two are able to speak. They have gone home,” he said.
Mother saved one son, one is missing
- Recalling the accident, a woman told how one of her daughters saved her life, but the other daughter is still missing. He said, “As soon as we started drowning, my daughter caught hold of me. She knew how to swim, so she pulled me and then someone else saved her. Her life was saved, but my other daughter is still missing; we have not found her yet.”
- It is being told that the victims were residents of Malhahi Tola area and used to regularly cross the river for vegetable trading.
- The rescue operation in Ganga is going on and the missing people are being searched.
