Sawan 2026: The devotees of Mahadev, the god of gods, eagerly wait for the month of Sawan. This month has been dedicated to Lord Shiva. Sawan is the fifth month of Hindi calendar. Devotees of Bholenath perform special worship of Lord Shiva in this month. Let’s perform their Jalabhishek. Jalabhishek of God has special significance in Sawan. Because according to mythological beliefs, the gods had offered water to Mahadev to cool his body after consuming poison in the month of Saavan. Along with Shiva worship in Sawan, Monday’s fast also has special significance.
Since both the entire month of Saavan and Monday are considered to be of Lord Shiva, it is believed that Lord Shiva becomes very pleased by the worship and fasting done on Monday in Saavan and removes all the sorrows and bestows happiness and prosperity in life. Sawan will start in the month of July itself. According to Drik Panchang, Sawan will start from 30th July. This month will end with Sawan Purnima on 28th August. When is the fast on the first Monday of Sawan 2026?
This year, the fast on the first Monday of Sawan will be observed on 03 August 2026. Monday fast of Sawan month is also called Somwari fast. Many devotees take a pledge to fast for sixteen Mondays from the first Monday of the month of Sawan. In the month of Sawan, devotees come out with Kanwar and after reaching the famous Shiva temples, perform Jalabhishek of Mahadev. Along with fasting on Monday of Sawan, Rudrabhishek is also performed. By performing Rudrabhishek on Monday of Sawan, one gets the blessings of Lord Shiva as well as Mother Parvati.
