Lucknow. Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is continuously implementing timely and transparent payment system while giving priority to the interests of sugarcane farmers. On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a record sugarcane price of Rs 3,22,722 crore has been paid to the sugarcane farmers of the state since 2017. This entire amount was sent directly to the bank accounts of the farmers through DBT, due to which the role of middlemen has almost been eliminated.
Sugarcane and sugar industry has now become a strong pillar of the rural economy in the state. The government is continuously working in a planned manner to increase the income of farmers, provide employment to the youth and accelerate rural development. Along with this, Uttar Pradesh has also left behind many big states in terms of average sugar level.
Record sugarcane payment of Rs 3.22 lakh crore in 9 years
Yogi government has created a new record in ensuring timely payment to sugarcane farmers. A total of Rs 3,22,722 crore was paid to farmers during the last 9 years, which is considered historic in itself. So far, Rs 30,831.81 crore has been paid to farmers in the crushing season 2025-26. According to the government, about 90 percent of the farmers have received their payment, while instructions have been issued to the remaining sugar mills to make the payment soon.
The entire system became digital through Smart Sugarcane Farmer System
Yogi government has promoted technology based system for sugarcane farmers. Through the ‘Smart Sugarcane Farmer’ system, the process of sugarcane area, speculation, calendaring and issuing slips has been made completely online. Now farmers get their sugarcane slip directly on mobile phone and the payment amount is transferred directly to the bank accounts. This has increased transparency and provided relief to farmers from the lengthy process.
Uttar Pradesh made a new record in sugar production and recovery
A total of 121 sugar mills are operating in Uttar Pradesh in the crushing season 2025-26. These include 3 sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh State Sugar Corporation, 23 sugar mills of cooperative sector and 95 sugar mills of private sector. These sugar mills crushed 877.96 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 89.68 lakh tonnes of sugar. The special thing is that the average sugar level of Uttar Pradesh has been recorded at 10.21 percent.
Despite 210 sugar mills operating in Maharashtra, the average sugar yield there was 9.49 percent, while in Karnataka this figure was 8.19 percent. In this way, Uttar Pradesh left other big states behind in terms of sugar recovery.
Farmers got additional benefit due to increase in sugarcane price
Yogi government gave big relief to the farmers by increasing the price of sugarcane by Rs 30 per quintal in the crushing season 2025-26. The government fixed the price of early variety sugarcane at Rs 400 per quintal and the price of normal variety at Rs 390 per quintal. Due to this decision, farmers have received additional payment of about Rs 3000 crore. This is the fourth time during the tenure of Yogi government that sugarcane price has been increased.
48 lakh sugarcane farmer families got financial strength
About 48 lakh sugarcane farmer families of the state have directly benefited from timely payment and increase in sugarcane prices. The government says that the Sugarcane Development Department is playing an important role in taking the state’s economy to one trillion dollars. The policies of Yogi government have strengthened the economic condition of sugarcane farmers and development in rural areas has gained new momentum.
