Special Cell of Shimla Police has seized 242 grams of heroin from near Shoghi Barrier and arrested three smugglers. The main accused Inder Dev alias Danu is a habitual criminal, against whom more than 53 cases are registered. Police is investigating the entire network.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [भारत]July 8 (ANI): The Special Cell of Shimla Police, in a special operation, has seized 242 grams of heroin (commonly known as “Chitta”) and arrested three alleged drug smugglers from near Shoghi Barrier on the outskirts of Shimla.

Acting on a specific information received on July 6 that a consignment of heroin was being transported in a vehicle from Shoghi Barrier area, the Special Cell team immediately established a checkpoint and stopped the suspected vehicle.

During the search conducted as per legal procedures and in the presence of independent witnesses, the police recovered 242 grams of heroin from the vehicle.

Who are the arrested accused?

The arrested accused have been identified as Inder Dev alias Danu, a Sunni resident of Shimla district, Moti Sharma, a resident of New Shimla and Suraj Chauhan, originally from Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh and currently living in Kumarsain, Shimla district.

A case has been registered under sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act vide FIR number 133/2026 dated July 6 at Baluganj Police Station. All three accused were arrested on the spot.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the main accused Inder Dev alias Danu is a habitual drug smuggler and has a long criminal record. Police said he has more than 53 criminal cases registered against him, including cases related to Arms Act, Excise Act and theft, besides nine cases under the NDPS Act.

The investigators further said that the accused was earlier detained for three months under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act and was released from jail on June 21, 2026.

Initial investigation reveals that he was an active member of a network that allegedly supplied heroin to hundreds of youth in Sunni, Rampur, Kumarsain and other parts of Shimla district.

Will be interrogated on police remand

The accused are being produced before the competent court for police remand. Police said further investigation is underway to identify the entire supply chain, including backward and forward linkages, financial transactions and other members of the drug trafficking network.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Shimla City, Mehar Panwar said, “Acting on credible intelligence, the Special Cell intercepted the vehicle and recovered 242 grams of heroin. The investigation is proceeding in a scientific manner, and we are investigating the entire supply network, financial transactions and all backward and forward linkages. We are committed to dismantle the organized drug trafficking network operating in and around Shimla.” (ANI)
