Iran has described the US decision on oil sanctions as a violation of the Islamabad MoU. In response, the US has launched military strikes against Iran over attacks on merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz, increasing tensions between the two countries.
tehran [ईरान]July 8 (ANI): Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday strongly condemned the United States’ decision to revoke the temporary suspension of sanctions on the sale of Iranian oil. Iran has described this as a “clear violation” of Article 10 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on June 18.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the US Treasury’s move to lift the temporary suspension of sanctions on the sale of Iranian oil, which is a gross violation of Article 10 of the Memorandum of Understanding to End the War. The ministry holds the US government responsible for the consequences of this breach of promise,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said the decision, announced less than 20 days after the signing of the agreement, reflected Washington’s “malicious intentions, instability and unreliability.” It further alleged that the US had repeatedly violated various provisions of the memorandum, either directly or “through the actions of the Zionist regime against Lebanon”.
According to the statement, Iran had tried sincerely to implement its commitments under the agreement since the signing of the MoU. The ministry said, “Since the signing of the MoU… the Islamic Republic of Iran has tried to fulfill its obligations sincerely and using all its capabilities… However, the US government, as always, has simultaneously violated its obligations and tried to justify them under various pretexts.”
Warning of consequences, the ministry said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while warning of the consequences of a violation of the agreement by the US, will take any steps it deems necessary to protect its interests and national security.” https://x.com/IRIMFA/status/2074605444119609824
America retaliated against Iran
Meanwhile, the United States has launched a series of military strikes against Iran in response to attacks on commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Twitter, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said, “US Central Command forces have launched a series of powerful strikes against Iran to target and attack commercial shipping operated by innocent civilians in an international waterway, exacting a heavy price.”
CENTCOM said the attacks came after Iran reportedly attacked three commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM also said that “Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.”
Meanwhile, several explosions were reported near Sirik and Qeshm in southern Iran, while Iranian state media also reported explosions east and west of Bandar Abbas. According to Al Jazeera, Iranian media said multiple explosions occurred at Sirik port after projectiles hit commercial and fishing piers.
Earlier on Tuesday, the US Treasury Department revoked a license issued in June that temporarily allowed Iran to produce, sell and distribute crude oil and related products until August 21. The move is aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran amid ongoing talks on a final resolution to the conflict. (ANI)
