The Delhi government has set a target of forming POCSO compliant Child Protection Committees in all 5,633 schools by the end of July. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu reviewed child safety, cyber safety, self-defense and awareness campaigns.
Delhi government has taken a big step towards strengthening the safety of children. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta along with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu reviewed the POCSO awareness campaign and various child safety related initiatives as part of the ongoing Child Protection Month in Delhi. The government has set a target that by the end of July, POCSO compliant Child Protection Committees will be formed in all 5,633 schools of the capital. The government says that creating a safe, sensitive and trustworthy educational environment for children is one of its top priorities.
Child protection system will be strengthened in all schools
It was told in the review meeting that Child Protection Committees are being formed in all government and private schools of Delhi as per POCSO standards. The objective of these committees is to monitor matters related to child safety, ensure timely resolution of complaints and ensure effective safety standards in institutions. Along with this, awareness about POCSO law, training of teachers and staff, cyber security and self-defense programs for students are also being implemented on a large scale in schools.
Focus will also be on Anganwadi and child care institutions
Delhi government clarified that this campaign will not be limited to schools only. Child protection programs will also be strengthened in Anganwadi-cum-Palna Centres, Child Care Institutions and District Child Protection Units. The objective of the Government is to ensure that effective systems of protection, awareness and prompt assistance are in place in every institution dealing with children.
Joint inspection team will do regular monitoring
To maintain the effectiveness of child protection measures, joint inspection teams of the Education Department, Women and Child Development Department and Delhi Police will be formed. These teams will regularly inspect schools and other institutions and review the safety standards. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government is working with full commitment to provide a safe, secure and positive environment to every child. The aim of the government is not only to make rules but also to implement them effectively on the ground.
