Two cubs of African female cheetah Nirva died on Wednesday in Kuno National Park (KNP) in Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh. Their mutilated bodies were recovered there. In this case, investigation is being done to find out how the cubs died. An officer said that Nirva was far away from her den. In such a situation, it was suspected that some other cheetah might have killed the cubs, but no evidence of the presence of any other cheetah has been found.
An official said a team of forest department staff tracking the movement of leopards had received signals through radio telemetry that Nirva was away from her den, following which they along with veterinarians reached the spot for inspection and saw That the mutilated bodies of two cubs were lying inside.
No evidence of any other animal found in the den
The official said that all possible places inside the enclosure have been inspected. After inspection, it was concluded that no evidence was found of the presence of any other cheetah or cub in the den. There was also confusion regarding how many cubs Nirva gave birth to.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had earlier shared a post on social media informing that Nirva had given birth to four cubs, but later he removed the post and said that the Forest Department would soon confirm the exact number of newborns.

However, the forest department official said that Nirva is completely healthy. Samples of the dead cubs have been collected and sent for testing. The exact cause of his death will be known only after receiving the laboratory report. He said that the entire matter is being investigated seriously. He said all other adult leopards and the 12 cubs are healthy.
