The power cut and maintenance work is being carried out just when a cyclone is lurking off Tamil Nadu shores. Cyclonic storm Fengal is currently 670 kilometres away from Chennai coast in the Bay of Bengal.
It is expected that the cyclone will move north-northwestwards. As it moves closer to the coast, it is sure to bring along heavy rains that will lash Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has taken note of the coming storm. He has already held high-level meeting attended by District Magistrates of Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur.
The CM has asked the officials to ensure that the people are safe and has also directed them to relocate people in vulnerable areas to safe locations.
He assured people of the state that the state government was prepared for the cyclone.
