CSK has opened its account in the ongoing auction in Jeddah, meaning it has bought the first player. Chennai first bought Devon Conway, who was earlier a part of this team. Conway got a huge amount of Rs 6 crore 25 lakh. Rahul Tripathi, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad last season, was also bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 3.25 crore.

Apart from Dhoni, the names of Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dubey, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mathisha Pathirana were included in the 5 players retained by the Chennai franchise before the auction. In IPL 2025, each franchise has Rs 120 crore to build a team. Out of that Rs 120 crore, CSK has spent Rs 65 crore only to retain those 5 players.
