There was a ruckus on Sunday morning during the survey of Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The crowd created a ruckus and started pelting stones and arson. The Hindu side claims that the Shahi Jama Masjid was built by demolishing the former Harihar Temple. It is also being claimed that this is the place where Lord Kalki will incarnate in the future. The Muslim side has denied the allegations in which it has been described as Harihar temple. They say that the royal Jama Masjid was built in 1529 by Mir Beg, who was the commander of Mughal emperor Babar.
Now the question is, is this the same Mir Beg who was called Mir Baqi? It is believed that Mir Baqi had built the mosque in Ayodhya, which later became a cause of controversy. According to historians, Mir Beg is known by many names. He was originally from Tashkent city of Uzbekistan. That’s why it was also called Baki Tashkent, which is mentioned in Babar’s book Baburnama. He was also known by the names Baki Beg, Baki Shaghawal and Baki Mingbashi.
Ayodhya and Sambhal connection
During the Mughal period, Babar made Mir Baqi the governor of Awadh Pradesh. It is believed that during this time in 1528, he had built a mosque in Ayodhya. According to the Muslim side, Jama Masjid of Sambhal was built by Mir Beg in 1529. That is, there is a difference of one year in the construction of both the mosques and the name of Babar’s special courtier is involved in the construction of both. In both the cases, the Hindu side claims that mosques were built by demolishing temples. There was an allegation of building a mosque at the birthplace of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. At the same time, it is being claimed that Shahi Jama Masjid will be built by demolishing the Harihar Temple in Sambhal.
Many claims regarding Sambhal Jama Masjid
The Shahi Jama Masjid of Sambhal has been constructed on about 5 bighas of land. Namaz is offered five times a day here. Thousands of worshipers come to the mosque for Friday prayers. Hindu side’s lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain has claimed in the petition filed in the court that the building of Jama Masjid is a centuries-old Harihar Temple. It is also being claimed that there are many signs of a temple inside the mosque, in which some pillars are also mentioned. At the same time, Jama Masjid President Mohammad Zafar has claimed that the mosque was not constructed by demolishing any temple nor is there any sign of any temple here. He expressed surprise at the quick action of the court.
Whose form is Lord Harihar?
The royal Jama Masjid of Sambhal which is being claimed to be a temple is being said to be of Lord Harihar. According to religious beliefs, Lord Harihar is a mixed form of Lord Vishnu and Shiva. Apart from Harihar, he is also called by the names Shankaranarayan and Shivkeshava. One part of his body belongs to Lord Vishnu i.e. Hari and the other part to Lord Shiva i.e. Har, hence his name was Harihar. There are many legends about the birth of Lord Harihar.
Where did Lord Harihar incarnate?
According to puratattva.in website, there is an ancient city ‘Harihar’ in Karnataka named after Lord Harihar. A demon named Guhasur lived here. He had a huge empire. By performing rigorous penance he obtained a boon from Brahma that he would not be killed by Vishnu or Shiva. After receiving the boon, he became almost invincible, after which all his cruelty increased. To end it, on the request of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu together took the form of Harihar, which had the qualities of half Vishnu and half Shiva. Harihara descended in Cuddalore, at the confluence of the Tungabhadra and Haridra rivers, where there are some marks on the rock which the local people say are the footprints of Lord Harihara.
