Fed up with dowry harassment in Bengaluru, Karnataka, a woman committed suicide. When the woman committed suicide, she was also pregnant. That means two lives were lost simultaneously. The woman had been married for only two years. The case has come to light from Doddaballapur in Bengaluru, where a woman named Roopa was married to Suresh, a resident of Gummanahalli in the taluk, two years ago.
Rupa and Suresh got married by choice. A few days after the marriage, Roopa’s in-laws started harassing her. He was repeatedly asked to borrow money from his house. Rupa was harassed by her in-laws as well as her husband for money. Her husband Suresh used to tell Roopa that if she had married someone else, she would have received more dowry.
Woman’s husband arrested
Before committing suicide, Rupa wrote a suicide note and took a photo and sent it to her brother, in which she talked about dowry harassment. She wrote that her in-laws were responsible for her death, who harassed her so much that she killed herself along with the child in her womb. Information about the matter was given to the police. After this, the police took action and took Rupa’s husband Suresh into custody and are interrogating her. Rupa’s father-in-law is a retired government officer and he denied the allegation of dowry harassment.
“My life is hell…”
Rupa wrote in the suicide note, “Hello brother, I made a mistake by not listening to you and got married. It has been 2 years since my marriage. I am not right here. My life has become hell. I don’t want to live anymore. If possible please forgive me. In the next life, I will repay your debt. My last respects to my father, mother and grandmother. Will get me justice. My mother-in-law, father-in-law, my husband and my husband’s family are responsible for my death. My mother-in-law Devamma, uncle Narasimha Murthy and husband Suresh should be punished.”
