World Fisheries Day: Uttarakhand gets best award among Himalayan and north-eastern states

The National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad has given the best award in the category of Himalayan and North Eastern states for the innovative experiments done in the field of fisheries in Uttarakhand. This award was handed over to Dr. BVRC Purushottam, Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries Department, Uttarakhand, by Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Panchayati Raj, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh, in a function organized in New Delhi on World Fisheries Day on Thursday.

Uttarakhand Fisheries Department has constructed more than 1400 trout raceways in the state for trout farming, and under the Matsya Sampada Yojana, a state level aquapark and a whole sale market have also been constructed in Udhamsinghnagar.

Many experiments were conducted in the state in the field of fisheries.

Not only this, the department has also signed a contract between local fishermen groups and ITBP for the supply of fish. With all these experiments, the income of fish farmers in Uttarakhand is expected to increase. Due to these experiments, the Board has selected Uttarakhand for this award. Many experiments have been done in the field of fisheries in the state like Aquapark, Fish Market and contract with ITBP.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated the department and the fishermen. He said that the government is continuously making many efforts to increase the income of farmers and cattle herders. Its results are now visible.
