Industrialist Gautam Adani’s troubles seem to be increasing once again. After struggling and recovering from the allegations of the report of American short selling firm Hindenburg Research for almost 2 years, now a case has been registered against his company in America. After this, a big blow has fallen on him and Kenyan President William Ruto has canceled a big deal with Adani Group.
Adani Group had given a proposal to the government of Kenya to take over the operation of the main airport of Kenya. Kenyan President William Ruto has canceled it on 21 November. Apart from this, he has also given instructions to cancel a big energy deal.
Energy deal worth Rs 6,215 crore
Adani Group was also going to make a big deal with the Energy Ministry of Kenya, the possibility of its cancellation has now increased. Adani Group was going to build power transmission lines in Kenya in a deal worth $736 million (about Rs 6,215 crore), which now instructions have been given to cancel.
According to Reuters news, President William Ruto has said, “I have instructed the agencies working under the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to immediately cancel any kind of procurement.” In his address to the nation, he said that the government has taken this decision in view of the new information revealed by the allied countries and investigative agencies.
Adani Group company Adani Energy Solutions had signed a public-private deal with Kenya Electrical Transmission Company in October this year. This deal was signed for 30 years. A Kenyan court had suspended this deal in October itself and asked for an investigation.
Adani and nephew accused of giving bribe
The US prosecutor has accused Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani as well as other officials of their group of paying bribes for contracts related to solar energy. This bribe was given to the officials of the Government of India and its value is around 250 million dollars (about Rs 2110 crore).
A case has been registered in an American court regarding these allegations. Adani Group is accused of giving this bribe to get big solar energy contracts between 2020 and 2024. Due to these deals, Adani Group was likely to earn a profit of more than $2 billion.
Adani Group said this on the allegations
Adani Group has denied the allegations made by the American Prosecutor. The group has cited that the US Justice Department itself has said that the allegations made in the case are still only allegations. Until proven guilty, they will be considered innocent. Adani Group has said that it will adopt all legal options regarding this matter.
