Market Holiday: Stock market will remain closed today, why will there not be trading on BSE and NSE?

Indian stock markets will remain closed for trading on Wednesday, November 20, due to voting for the assembly elections in Maharashtra. The Election Commission of India (EC) announced the dates for Maharashtra Assembly elections on October 15, 2024. According to the announcement of the Election Commission, elections for 288 seats in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase, in which 4,136 candidates will contest.

The counting of votes will be done on 23 November 2024. There will be no trading or settlement in stocks, derivatives and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE on Wednesday. The next stock market holiday will be on Christmas, December 25, 2024, which will be the last market holiday in India this year.

The domestic stock market is open from Monday to Friday. Trading in the stock market takes place from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm. On regular trading days, there is also a pre-open session from 9 am to 9:15 am. The stock market is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Will the commodity market remain open?

Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed for trading from 9 am to 5 pm for the morning session. Evening trading session will be open for trading from 5 pm to 11:55 pm (up to 9 pm for selected agri commodities). On the other hand, India’s largest agri commodity exchange National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed. Contracts expiring on Wednesday have been extended to the last trading day, Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

How was the stock market on Tuesday?

On Tuesday, the stock market closed with gains after 7 consecutive trading days of decline. Bombay Stock Exchange’s main index Sensex closed at 77,578.38 points with a gain of 239.37 points. The special thing is that during the trading session, BSE saw a rise of more than 1000 points and even reached the day’s high of 78,451.65 points. Before that, Sensex had seen a fall of more than 3 thousand points in 7 trading days.

On the other hand, the main index of National Stock Exchange, Nifty also closed at 23,518.50 points with a rise of about 65 points. Whereas during the trading session, Nifty saw an increase of more than 300 points and reached the day’s high of 23,780.65 points. However, before that there had been a fall of more than 1000 points in 7 trading days.
