Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Jal Ganga Augmentation Abhiyan made water conservation a mass movement by reaching out to 7 crore families and record water structures were created in the state.

‘Jal Ganga Augmentation Abhiyan’, run under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav with the aim of conserving, rejuvenating traditional water sources and ensuring water security for the coming generations, has emerged as a remarkable example of public participation. This special campaign, which started with the aim of conserving every drop of water keeping in mind the possibility of less rainfall in the upcoming monsoon, was successfully completed on 30 June 2026. Due to the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the commitment of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, this campaign was not limited to just government initiatives, but became a widespread people’s movement reaching across the country and abroad.

Water conservation campaign gets widespread support on social media, digital reach close to 7 crores

The campaign received unprecedented public support on social media and various digital platforms. Awareness posters, short films and infographics were shared daily from the government’s official platforms on mediums such as Xx (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Through hashtags like #Jal_Ganga_Samvardhan_Abhiyan, #Jal_Hai_To_Kal_Hai, #WaterConservation and #SaveWater, the message of water conservation reached not only the state but also the country and abroad. The total reach of this digital campaign was recorded to be more than 6 crore 95 lakh 74 thousand 820 people, resulting in a large number of citizens joining the initiative.

Construction and rehabilitation of more than 3.63 lakh water structures in Madhya Pradesh

Through the continuous monitoring of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and a special digital dashboard, work was done at a record level in the entire state during the campaign. Construction and renovation of more than 3 lakh 63 thousand water structures were completed at a cost of approximately Rs 10,514 crore.

With the aim of increasing the groundwater level, 67,708 farm ponds, 225 Amrit Sarovar and 97,614 well recharge structures were created in record time. Apart from this, more than 10 thousand wells, rivers and ancient stepwells were cleaned, deepened and beautified and water sources were revived by removing encroachments at many places. Due to these efforts, Madhya Pradesh has made a strong identity among the leading states of the country in the field of water conservation.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inspired people to conserve water by doing shramdaan.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav himself remained continuously active in making the campaign a mass movement. He visited various districts and performed Shramdaan and inspired all sections of the society to participate in water conservation works. After starting the third phase of the campaign from Indore on March 19, 2026, he participated in the deepening of Devi Sagar pond in Dhar, Shipra Tirtha Parikrama in Ujjain, ‘Sadanira Samagam’ in Bhopal and the concluding program organized in Rajgarh. During this, he reiterated that “if there is water, there is tomorrow” and the state government will continue to give impetus to water conservation works in future also.

New environment and employment missions started with Jal Ganga campaign

With the conclusion of the Jal Ganga Enhancement Campaign, the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” plantation campaign was launched with the aim of promoting environmental protection. Along with this, “Developed India-Rural Employment and Livelihood Mission” was also started from July 1, through which an attempt was made to give a new direction to environmental protection and rural development.

Madhya Pradesh becomes an example of public participation in water conservation

Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan made it clear that when government and society work together for a purpose, the results are wide-ranging and effective. This campaign towards water conservation was not just a government scheme, but became a mass movement involving public participation which played an important role in establishing Madhya Pradesh in the category of leading states of the country.
