10 thousand students on the streets, police lathi charge and stampede like situation… Why is there chaos in Prayagraj?

There is a commotion outside the office of Uttar Pradesh Union Public Service Commission in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. There is a crowd of more than 10 thousand students. On the other hand the police is lathi charging. Because of this, stampede like situations have arisen. This situation has arisen due to the announcement of dates for the examinations of Uttar Pradesh PCS and R-ARO. Actually, the Commission has released the datesheet to conduct these examinations on two days and in different shifts. The demand of the students is that these examinations should be held in one day and in one shift. A situation of conflict has arisen between the Commission and the students regarding this issue.

Students preparing for competitive exams while staying in Prayagraj are demanding One Day, One Shift, No Normalization from the Commission. Students have been demanding this for a long time. Meanwhile, ignoring the demands of the students, the Commission released the datesheet for both the examinations. This spread anger among the students. Within no time, thousands of students arrived to surround the commission. According to the police, barricading was done by the students on the information of uproar. Despite this, a large number of students jumped the barricade and entered inside.

Students are demanding exams in a day or two

In such circumstances, students clashed with the police. In such circumstances the police also had to use mild force. According to the protesting students, there was a demand to conduct both the examinations being conducted by the Commission on the same day and in the same shift. Apart from this, there was also a demand not to use normalization formula in evaluation. Regarding these demands, the students had also staged a protest outside the Public Service Commission on 21st October last month. Despite this, the Commission has declared the datesheet of these examinations.

Exam in two days due to large number of students

In this, it has been decided to conduct PCS Pre exam on 7th and 8th December. This examination will be held in two shifts. Similarly, the preliminary examination of RO/ARO is to be conducted on 22 and 23 December. This examination will be held in two shifts on 22nd December and in one shift on 23rd December. It is being told that this time a total of 5 lakh 76 thousand 154 students are going to appear in the PCS preliminary examination-2024. For the examination of so many students, 1758 centers were to be built in all 75 districts, but only 978 centers have been built. Only 4 lakh 35 thousand 74 candidates can be examined at these centres.

Adequate number of examination centers have not been made.

Same situation exists in RO/ARO examination also. A total of 10 lakh 76 thousand candidates are to appear in this examination. There are not enough examination centers for these. This problem has arisen due to the government order, which states that examination centers will be set up only within a radius of 20 km from the Collectorate/Treasury. Apart from this, due to many other standards, sufficient number of examination centers could not be built. In such circumstances, the Commission has decided to conduct the examination in two days.
