Palakkad: Congress MP from Palakkad V.K. Sreekandan, Congress MP called for an investigation into the political backdrop of the scandalous allegations that led to Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil’s resignation from the post of Youth Congress state president.
“It is clear that there is a political motive behind the allegations. These partially clothed women have been seen in compromising positions with Ministers, and their behavior and photos with them speak for themselves,” said Mr. Sreekandan.
Addressing the media in Palakkad on Friday (August 22, 2025), Mr. Sreekandan questioned the “moral integrity” of the women who raised the allegations against Mr. Mamkootathil.
Took a U-turn within within 12 hours following pressure from within Congress
However, Mr. Sreekandan later clarified that he did not intend to insult anyone who raised the allegations against Mr. Mamkootathil and apologised “unconditionally” if his words were misinterpreted as disrespect towards women.
“I have not insulted any of the complainants. I have not disrespected anyone. What I said was twisted and turned into a discussion. My words were misinterpreted. It is not our culture to insult those who complain or criticise. If anyone has been hurt, I withdraw my words and I unconditionally apologise,” said Mr. Sreekandan.
Mr. Sreekandan said he never tried to whitewash or protect Mr. Mamkootathil. “What I said was that the party took immediate action when the allegations were raised against him. The allegations were neither submitted in writing nor presented before the police or the legal system. In spite of that, the Congress took swift action. I said that if anyone is found guilty before the law, the party will take strict action against them regardless of their position,” he said.
