A deficiency in iodine can lead to various health issues like physical weakness, hair loss, joint pain, irregular menstruation, and goiter.

Tata’s company began salt production in 1927. In 1983, Tata introduced iodized salt to the Indian market, at a time when iodine deficiency was a significant concern. The iodized salt provided by Tata helped alleviate this issue across the country. In 1982, the government mandated that all edible salt in India should be iodized by 1992, which further fueled the success of Tata Salt.

Tata Salt’s Role in India’s Kitchens

By 1992, Tata Salt had become a household name in kitchens across India. By 2019, the Tata Group had sold over 90,000 metric tons of salt, reaching approximately 161 million homes across the country.
