It was settled by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the king of Amer. That is why this city was named Jaipur after him. At that time, it took 4 years for Raja Jai Singh to completely settle this city. After being settled by Raj Jai Singh, this city was made the capital of Amer. Amer is still situated at some distance from Jaipur, Amer also has a very big fort, it is said that Akbar’s queen Jodha Bai was born in this fort.

It was designed by a Bengali architect

Bhattacharya was on the post of Naib Inspector in Amer Darbar. But his knowledge in architecture was very good and seeing his interest, Raja Jai Singh made Bhattacharya plan the city of Jaipur. Impressed by his abilities, Maharaja Jai Singh made him the city planner of his new capital Jaipur.

What things were kept in mind while establishing the city?

While establishing this city, the king had made proper arrangements to collect and drain rain water. This system is not seen even today in most cities. Along with this, according to Vaastu, the king had also built many doors to exit this city. Today Jaipur has become a tourist destination.

Why is it called pink city?
Surrounded by the Aravalli mountains on three sides, this city is called the Pink City. The reason for this is that in the year 1876, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh had decorated the entire city in pink color to welcome Queen Elizabeth of England and Prince Albert of Wales. Since then this city came to be known as Pink City. This city is also called the Paris of India.
