The hearing on the sentence of former SP MLA from Kanpur Irfan Solanki and his brother Rizwan Solanki was held in Allahabad High Court on Wednesday. Irfan Solanki’s lawyers presented their arguments in the case for about four hours. During the hearing, Irfan and Rizwan Solanki sought stay on their sentence and to be released on bail. The court has scheduled the next hearing of this case for Thursday, in which the state government will present its side.
In their petition, the Solanki brothers have challenged the seven-year sentence awarded by the MP-MLA Special Court of Kanpur. On October 21, the Supreme Court had directed the Allahabad High Court to give its verdict within ten days on the application to stay the sentence of Irfan Solanki. After the order of the Supreme Court, this matter is being heard seriously in the Allahabad High Court.
What is the demand in criminal appeal?
Irfan Solanki and his brother Rizwan Solanki have demanded from the court to stay their sentence and release them on bail. In the criminal appeal filed on his behalf, it has been said that he is serving a seven-year sentence without committing any crime. Apart from this, the state government has filed a government appeal to convert Irfan Solanki’s sentence to life imprisonment, which is currently under consideration.
