Dharwad: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Dharwad, Karnataka. Here a husband strangled his wife to death just because she was fat and considered her incapable of having children. Apart from this, he also used to harass his wife for dowry. This shocking incident took place in Hanasi village of Navalgund taluk, which came to light late. The deceased woman has been identified as 29-year-old Priyanka Kamlakar. In this case, the police have arrested the cruel husband Basavaraj Vaddar and three other people who supported him in this crime.
Life became hell within a year of marriage
The marriage of Priyanka and accused Basavaraj took place with great pomp in 2024. Everything went well for the first few months of marriage, but then a storm arose. Within a year of marriage, husband Basavaraj and his family started harassing Priyanka physically and mentally for dowry. It is being said that they were constantly pressurizing Priyanka to bring more gold and money from her maternal home.
Used physical appearance as an excuse, used to behave like animals
Along with the dowry harassment, husband Basavaraj also used to fight daily with Priyanka over her being a little fat. He would taunt her, “You’re too fat, you can’t get pregnant, you can’t have a baby.” He continuously caused mental pain to Priyanka with these cruel words. There were often heated arguments between husband and wife regarding this issue.
There was a big fight on Monday night
Last Monday night, a big fight again broke out between the husband and wife over the same issue at their house in Hanasi village. During this time, Basavaraj became so enraged that he forgot all humanity and strangled Priyanka and took her life. The accused tried to hide this terrible incident that happened two days ago. But when Priyanka’s parents became suspicious of her death, they lodged a complaint with the police.
Four accused arrested
Based on the complaint of the deceased’s family, a case of murder and dowry harassment was registered at Nawalgund police station. Taking immediate action, the police arrested a total of four people including the main accused Basavaraj Vaddar on charges of aiding and abetting murder and torture. Those arrested include husband Basavaraj, Renavva, Subhash and Siddharamesh, who are currently in police custody. The police are closely interrogating the four accused and have started further investigation of the case.
