A major accident took place on Sunday in the Paragliding World Cup 2024 organized at Bir Billing in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. A Polish paraglider participating in this World Cup got damaged after colliding with another paraglider in mid-air. After this the paraglider got lost somewhere in the hills of Kangra. After getting the information, the organizing committee and the police started a combing operation in search of this paraglider. On the other hand, even before the competition started, Australia’s paraglider suffered a sprain in his legs. Because of this he has been thrown out of the competition.
According to officials, paragliders from many countries were participating on Sunday. During this time, when the Australian paraglider went to participate in the competition, he suffered a sprain in his legs. Because of this he was thrown out of the competition. After this, paragliders from different countries took flight, but after some time, Poland’s paraglider collided with another paraglider in the air. Due to this, the paraglider lost its balance and within no time it got entangled somewhere in the hills of Kangra.
Efforts continue to save paraglider
According to officials, there was a stir as soon as this information was received. Immediately, a combing operation was started in collaboration with the police in search of this paraglider. It is being told that after a lot of efforts, the officials have established contact with this paraglider, but till now the team has not been able to reach his location. According to Anurag Sharma, President of Billing Paragliding Association, the eight-day Paragliding World Cup 2024 started from November 2. Seven female and 94 male paragliders from 26 countries are participating in it.
Many accidents happened in a week
He said that for the safety of paragliders, two helicopters, an ambulance as well as an emergency team of doctors have been kept on alert mode at all times at the venue. Similarly, experts of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mountaineering and Allied Sports Institute in Manali have also been asked to remain alert. Let us tell you that last week only two foreign paragliders had met with an accident in Himachal Pradesh. Similarly, on Tuesday, a Belgian paraglider died in an accident in Bir Billing. This paraglider collided with another paraglider in the air. In the same sequence, Dita Misurkova (43), who was paragliding alone on Wednesday, also became a victim of an accident in Madhi, Manali due to loss of control.
