The project will provide 48-fibre OFC connectivity across 1,696.2 route kilometers (RKM) across four major divisions of South Eastern Railway, thereby strengthening the communication network supporting safe, efficient and technology-driven railway operations.

Work will be done in these divisions

This sanctioned work includes establishment of OFCs in the following divisions: Adra Division: 545.4 RKM; Chakradharpur Division: 392.3 RKM; Kharagpur Division: 339.9 RKM; Ranchi Division: 418.6 RKM. All these works will strengthen the communication infrastructure of more than 1,696.2 route kilometers of South Eastern Railway.

This upgraded fiber optic network will provide a robust, high capacity communication network for railway operations. This will enhance the reliability of the communication system, help in faster transmission of operational data and improve coordination between stations, control offices and field units.

The project will also provide the necessary communication infrastructure to support modern railway technology, thereby strengthening the digital foundation for future capacity expansion on the South Eastern Railway network and improving operational efficiency. The approval is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernize critical railway infrastructure through advanced communication systems to ensure safer, smarter and more efficient train operations across the country.

Electronic interlocking approved in Asansol division

Meanwhile, Indian Railways has also approved a project worth Rs 432 crore to replace relay-based interlocking with electronic interlocking (EI) at 27 stations/cabins (including 1 IBS location) on High Density Network (HDN) and Highly Utilized Network (HUN) routes of Asansol division of Eastern Railway.

The sanctioned work involves replacement of 28 relay-based interlocking installations (27 PI/RRI and 1 IBS) with state-of-the-art electronic interlocking system, which will significantly enhance the safety, reliability and operational efficiency of train operations. (ANI)
