In the name of reducing suffering and predicting the future, swindlers disguise themselves as siddhi-clad sages and cheat people. A similar case has now come to light from Ranchi. Ranchi Police has arrested two members who cheated people by dressing up as sadhus. The arrested accused have been identified as 32-year-old Sagar, resident of Sonipat district of Haryana and 24-year-old Ravindra Nath, resident of Najafgarh, South West Delhi.
Police have recovered two gold rings and about ₹ 2700 in cash from both the accused. The police are interrogating both the arrested accused in the context of other people involved in the gang who cheated by posing as sadhus. Police said that both the arrested accused confessed to their crime and said that on the occasion of festivals, they used to take rooms on rent in hotels or lodges in the surrounding areas including the capital Ranchi and used to target people.
They were trying to cheat money and gold chain from the woman.
Disclosing the matter, Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha said that on October 27, two sadhus wearing saffron clothes were trying to cheat Shweta Sinha, a woman resident of Nivaranpur under Chutiya police station area of the capital Ranchi. The accused were told that something terrible would happen to them and their family in the future. The thugs were trying to cheat money and gold chain from the woman. In such a situation, the woman became suspicious of him and quietly informed the police.
Police have recovered many items
As soon as information about the case was received, the team formed under the leadership of Chutiya police station in-charge conducted a raid and caught both the thugs in the guise of sadhus from Nivaranpur. Police said that after strict interrogation, both the accused have accepted the crime of causing untoward incidents to people and cheating by showing fear of witchcraft and snakes. The police also raided the hotel where both the accused were staying after booking a room. During the raid, the police recovered a bundle from the room, in which two gold rings along with many other items were also recovered.
Both the accused wore saffron clothes and kept a bundle with them in the guise of a sadhu. The bundle contained snakes and many other witchcraft items. Seeing an elderly person or a woman in a deserted place, he would start talking to them and express the fear of a major tragedy or accident happening to his family in the future. After this, they would trick them and cheat them of gold jewelery or money and run away.
