Nikkhil Advani directorial Chandini Chowk to China which released in 2009 turned out to be box office dud. The film which was co-produced by Hollywood’s major production company Warner Bros.
The movie didn’t do well at the box office, even with a talented ensemble that included Deepika Padukone and Akshay Kumar .
Nikhil Advani on Chandini Chowk to China being a flop at box office
In his conversation on Cyrus Says, Nikhil Advani said, “People anticipated, Akshay Kumar will be next in line to make this record, and Chandni Chowk was supposed to be that film for him. But it flopped”.
He further shared, “This journalist actually stood outside with his camera crew, pointing to my building and saying, ‘Yahape Nikkhil Advani rehta hai, jisne apke paise ki barbaadi ki hai. Uske ghar pe patthar pheko (This is where Nikkhil Advani stays, who wasted your money. Throw stones at his building).’ It was mad”. Reflecting on the film, Nikkhil continued that, “I knew the movie was not going to do well. The second half had a lot of problems. There were too many captains of that ship. Democracy killed the film”.

He started his carrer as an assistant to art-house film filmmakers such as Saeed Mirza, Kundan Shah, and Sudhir Mishra. Following that, he worked for Dharma Productions, the late Yash Johar, father of Karan Johar, and Yash Raj Films.
