Once again a death has occurred in the custody of the police of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Mohit Pandey. Mohit and his brother Shobharam were detained by the Chinhat police station late on Friday evening. Police say that Mohit’s health suddenly deteriorated in the night and he was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he died. Mohit’s family members say that Mohit died due to police beating and after his death he was brought to the hospital.
At present, the atmosphere in Lucknow is heated due to this incident. Mohit’s family created a ruckus outside the hospital and demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter along with strict action against Chinhat Kotwal. However, during this time the police also used mild force to remove the family members from the hospital. A video of this incident is also going viral on social media. Family members allege that the police of Chinhat police station had detained Mohit and Shobharam late on Friday evening in connection with a fight.
Two brothers were detained by the police
Under the guise of questioning, the police beat up both of them. During this time, Mohit died and he was immediately admitted to the hospital. Mohit’s family members say that serious injury marks are clearly visible at many places on his body. He says that the police had picked up both the brothers from their house in the night itself, but till now there is no news of the other brother. The family members had tried to meet him in the lockup at night itself, but they did not allow him to meet.
Allegation of assault under pressure from leader
Family members allege that the police committed this crime under the pressure of a leader. ADCP Pankaj Singh arrived as the commotion increased in the hospital. He told that the matter is being investigated. Something can be said in this regard only after investigation. He told that the post-mortem of the dead body is being conducted. The cause of death of the young man will become clear in the post mortem report.
