A sensational case has come to light from Gola police station area of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Here in a village, a married woman died under suspicious circumstances. The brother, who reached the information, accused the in-laws of killing his sister by strangulation for dowry. Seeing the sister’s dead body, the brother cried and said that the in-laws were butchers. They were harassing their sister for dowry. Following the brother’s complaint, the police have registered a case of dowry death against the husband and other in-laws.
The deceased’s brother Upendra told the police that he was a resident of Dhakwa market in Sikriganj. My sister was married to Kuldeep, a resident of ward number one of Gola Nagar Panchayat, in 2018. Whatever demands were made by the in-laws at the time of marriage, we fulfilled them with every effort. But the in-laws again started demanding dowry.
‘In-laws used to taunt me for dowry’
Brother told that my sister was very intelligent. She continued to tolerate everything thinking that the matter would get resolved with time. During this time, the sister gave birth to two girls, but after that the situation got worse. In-laws always taunted me for dowry. He said that you are not able to fulfill the dowry demands from your parents and otherwise you have given birth to two daughters. In such a situation, how will they get married?
When my sister started getting beaten every day over this, she somehow mustered the courage to tell me and I went and explained it to her in-laws. I told them that we do not have the capacity to give more dowry. The brother alleged that his in-laws did not even inform him about his sister’s death. They wanted to cremate the body immediately, but I got the information through a person from his locality. She told on the phone that your sister is no more in this world, so when I reached her in-laws’ house running, I saw her dead body kept outside.
What did the police officer say?
The police reached the spot, after understanding the matter, took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. In this regard, CO Gola Ratneshwar Singh said that on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, the police registered a case of dowry death against husband Kuldeep and three other in-laws. Case has been registered. After the post mortem report comes, further action will be taken on the basis of evidence and facts.
