In recent years, a lot of reports about a biopic on legendary Indian musician Kishor Kumar’s life and times dominated the headlines.
However, there is no official confirmation on which director is on the project. Recently director Shoojit Sircar revealed that he had been working on a biopic and did research on the late musician. But, he had left the project mid-way.
After announcing his new film I Want to Talk starring Abhishek Bachchan, Sircar opened up about the now-dropped biopic that he had worked over three to four years.
In his recent interview with Scroll, Sircar revealed that he decided to stop working on his project because he learnt that director Anurag Basu was also working on the same script, and hence he decided to take a step back.
He said, “I had been working on a script on the life of Kishore Kumar. I did almost three to four years of research with the family, but there were a couple of other scripts being worked on at the same time, including by Anurag Basu.”
Explaining further, he added that it’s tough for him to get back on a project that he had once stopped working on.
“I had developed a draft, but when I learnt about Anurag, I didn’t think there was any point in two people doing the same thing. So that went on ice. Once you lose the momentum, it’s a big challenge to go back to it,” he continued.
If reports are to be believed, Anurag is currently working on Kishore Kumar’s biopic and he’s reached out to Aamir Khan to star in the movie. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
An inside source told Pinkvilla, “The Kishore Kumar biopic is a subject close to the heart of Anurag Basu and producer Bhushan Kumar, and they are looking to bring it in the best possible way. Aamir Khan is also a big admirer of Kishore Kumar and loved the vision that Basu has. The filmmaker has treated it very differently, and that’s what has fascinated Aamir the most.”
