The severe cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ which arose from the Bay of Bengal has crossed the Odisha coast. According to information received from the Indian Meteorological Department, the storm hit the coast at midnight on Thursday 24 October, due to which the storm made landfall from Thursday midnight to Friday morning. According to the information received from the department, the havoc of rain will continue due to Storm Dana. However, the question is when do these cyclones form and what will be the name of the next cyclone.
Meteorologists, after various tests and surveys, have found that cyclones arise in the Bay of Bengal between April to May and October to November. However, sometimes their power is less and sometimes they are so terrible that everything gets destroyed. The mark of these storms is sometimes Bangladesh, sometimes Odisha, sometimes West Bengal. Last year, at exactly this time i.e. at the end of October, cyclone ‘Hamun’ had come. This storm affected Bangladesh, India, and Myanmar.
Who names the storm?
A special approach is adopted in naming cyclones. Some countries name cyclones according to the rules set by the World Meteorological Organization. These countries are India, Bangladesh, Iran, Maldives, Myanmar, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.
What is the name of the next storm?
Every country names the storms one by one, like a few years ago a cyclone named ‘Yas’ hit the coast of Bengal. This name was given by Oman. Apart from this, Sri Lanka had named Asani storm. Qatar has named Cyclone Dana. The name of the next cyclone will be ‘Shakti’. Sri Lanka has given this name.
Due to Dana, Sabhadrak and Bansada of Odisha have suffered the most damage. There are also reports of falling of many trees and electric poles in Bansada. However, according to the Meteorological Department, its effect has now reduced.
