YSRCP kept distance, demanded ballot paper
New Delhi [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Maddila Gurumurthy on Tuesday said her party is unaware of the letter written by opposition INDIA block parties to the Chief Justice of India regarding the VVPAT process and other election issues. Also, he reiterated the party’s neutral stance and its old demand of holding elections using ballot paper.
Speaking to ANI, Gurumurthy said, “We are not aware of these letters. Our party, the YSR Congress Party, takes a neutral stand. We have already expressed our views during the Parliament debates. We request that whoever is eligible to vote should cast their vote. Secondly, the YSR Congress Party demands that the elections be conducted using ballot papers. This is our demand. As of now, we do not know much about the letter.” But if someone contacts us, we’ll see how it progresses.”
INDIA Block wrote letter to CJI
The comments came as INDIA block parties including Aam Aadmi Party and DMK came together to raise concerns over the Special Intensive Scrutiny (SIR) process of the Election Commission of India and other electoral issues. The bloc has written a joint letter to the Chief Justice of India raising its concerns.
Sources told ANI that the joint letter was successfully signed by DMK and AAP after hectic behind-the-scenes talks led by the leadership of major parties of the INDIA block.
In a post on Twitter, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the letter, which was initially discussed at the INDIA Janbandhan meeting on June 8, has been signed by 23 political parties and one independent. He wrote on the (Solidarity, Unity and Resistance).”
Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien also confirmed the development, saying parties including the Aam Aadmi Party and DMK were among the signatories of the letter.
Earlier, Jairam Ramesh had described the June 8 INDIA block meeting as “good”, saying the alliance had a “constructive agenda” on issues including the economy, Centre-state relations, protection of the Constitution and foreign policy. (ANI)
