Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday welcomed Donald Trump’s statement that the US Republican presidential candidate sought to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Putin’s remarks came while he was addressing 16th BRICS Summit. The Russian President also referred to Trump as sincere.
“Donald Trump spoke about his desire to do everything to end the conflict in Ukraine. I think he is being sincere. Of course we welcome statements like this, whoever they come from,” said Putin as quoted by AFP.
“How Russian-American relations will develop after the election will depend on the United States. If they are open, then we will also be open. And if they don’t want it, then fine,” said Trump while speaking to the reporters in Kazan, reported AFP.
As the BRICS Summit ended on Thursday, Putin noted that BRICS countries are committed to fostering a more democratic and multipolar world order.
“It is important that the declaration reaffirms the commitment of all our states to building a more democratic, inclusive, and multipolar world order based on international law and the UN Charter,” he said.
Putin also said that the BRICS group is open to all who share its values, with members dedicated to finding joint solutions free from external pressure or narrow approaches, Xinhua news agency reported.
Putin stated that the BRICS group welcomes anyone who aligns with its values, emphasizing that its members are committed to seeking collaborative solutions without external influence or limited perspectives, as reported by Xinhua news agency. He highlighted that BRICS operates transparently and inclusively, confirming that the leaders have finalized the list of partner countries.
“Some countries that have participated in these events have submitted their proposals and requests for full-fledged participation in the work of the BRICS association,” Putin added.
He further mentioned that BRICS nations haven’t developed and are not developing any alternatives to SWIFT, adding however that the issue remains important, and member countries are moving towards the use of national currencies.
BRICS members are currently using the Financial Messaging System created by the Russian Central Bank, he said.
