The Middle East remains on the boil, with tensions escalating and violence persisting amid ongoing conflicts. On Thursday, an Israeli strike on a school sheltering displaced individuals in the central Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of at least 17 people, according to Palestinian medical officials.
The Israeli military said that they targeted Hamas militants inside the school but did not provide evidence. In recent months, Israel has conducted airstrikes on school-turned-shelters in Gaza, asserting that these operations target militants hiding among civilians. However, these strikes have frequently resulted in tragic civilian casualties, including the deaths of women and children.
The Israeli strike comes at a time when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Israel has successfully achieved its objective of dismantling Hamas and that negotiations over a cease-fire would resume in the coming days. Speaking to reporters in Qatar, Blinken emphasized the importance of these negotiations in seeking a resolution to the hostilities.
India Sends Humanitarian Aid To Lebanon
Amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East, India reinforced its commitment to humanitarian support by delivering the first tranche of assistance to Lebanon. Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh officially handed over a consignment of essential medicines to Lebanon’s Health Minister Firas Abiad.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the Indian Embassy in Lebanon said, “The First tranche of India’s humanitarian assistance arrives in Beirut. Lebanon’s Health Minister HE Dr Firas Abiad received the consignment of medicines in the presence of Amb @NoorRahman_IFS. India stands committed to strengthening close ties with Lebanon.”
