The relationship between screenwriter Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi often remains in the headlines. Both are known for their outspokenness. Javed Akhtar and Shabana Ajni have completed 40 years of marriage. Anu Kapoor has spoken openly about how and under what circumstances both of them got married.
Anu Kapoor recently had a long conversation with Desk. During his interview, he also shared the story of that night when Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi got married. On one hand, Javed Akhtar was drunk on his wedding night and Anu Kapoor had taken the responsibility of their marriage on her shoulders. If Anu Kapoor is to be believed, it was she who got both of them married and also made all the arrangements.
Javed Akhtar was drunk on the wedding night
Anu Kapoor says, “I got Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi married on the night of 9 December 1984. That too is a story in itself. He was sitting drunk (drunken) and she was sitting inside reading a book, so I reached there on the night of 9th December. I said, whatever my wife is now…I considered her as my sister…so I said whatever is, now decide, friend. These were tunes of course. So he started saying what decision should I take, he is not ready to do anything.”
Anu Kapoor had brought Maulana in the middle of the night.
Completing her statement, Anu Kapoor further said, “I went to him that sir, are you all ready, then he said yes, it is fine. I said, Bibi, are you ready, then she said yes, okay. Then I said, I am leaving.” After this Anu Kapoor went with his driver and brought the Maulvi at midnight. That night a call was made to Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. Some other people were also called and by morning the marriage took place.
