Chhattisgarh’s Material Bank Model was praised by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during the National Rural Development Conference in New Delhi. This has given new impetus to women empowerment and rural housing construction.
Raipur. Chhattisgarh’s innovative material bank model initiative received special appreciation at the national level in the two-day National Rural Development Conference held in New Delhi. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan praised this model developed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), calling it an effective innovation to accelerate housing construction in rural areas. Chhattisgarh was represented in this conference by Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Shri Vijay Sharma.
Villagers are getting construction materials at one place through material bank model.
The material bank model developed by the Government of Chhattisgarh is being operated by women associated with self-help groups as ‘Dealer Didi’. Under this initiative, essential construction materials are being made available at one place to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) in remote rural areas. With this system, the process of building a house has become easier, faster and less expensive than before. Also, the beneficiaries do not need to wander to different places for the material.
A strong medium for women empowerment and livelihood
The Material Bank Model has not only accelerated housing construction but has also achieved remarkable success in the direction of women empowerment. This initiative has increased the income of women of self-help groups and more than 10 thousand ‘Dealer Didis’ are moving towards becoming Lakhpati Didis. In the conference, this model was described as an effective example of women empowerment, employment generation and rural development.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that Chhattisgarh has presented an excellent example of innovation and effective implementation of schemes in the field of rural development. He also appreciated the work being done under RSETI and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Rural Skill Scheme to connect rural youth with skill development, self-employment and employment. He also mentioned that Chhattisgarh has conducted the highest number of mason training in the country through RSETIs in the last financial year. According to him, these efforts of the state are inspiring for other states also.
