A speeding Volvo bus collided with a trailer on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura in the early hours of Monday. Four people, including three bus staff members and a passenger, died in the accident, while 25 others were injured. There were about 65 passengers in the bus.
Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Four people, including three bus staff members and a passenger, were killed and around 25 others injured when a Volvo bus collided with a trailer on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district early Monday.
According to the police, the accident occurred at around 3:35 am near Milestone 112 of Raya police station area.
Police made green corridor for the injured
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat said that the bus carrying about 65 passengers collided with a trailer running in the third lane from behind due to high speed. Rawat told ANI, “A road accident occurred on Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district. A trailer was running in the third lane. A Volvo bus carrying about 65 passengers collided with the trailer from behind due to speeding. Police received information at 3:35 am. A green corridor was created from the accident site to the hospital. The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital. Four people have died and 19 others are undergoing treatment. Giving an update, district officials said that the deceased have been identified as three bus staff members and one passenger, while the number of injured has increased to about 25.
The co-driver was driving the bus at the time of the accident
Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said that preliminary investigation has revealed that at the time of the accident, the co-driver and not the main driver of the bus was behind the wheel. “The co-driver was driving the bus at high speed. He lost control, following which the bus collided with the trailer moving ahead. A detailed investigation is being conducted into the incident,” the SSP said.
The District Magistrate reached the hospital and inquired about the condition of the injured.
Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash and SSP Shlok Kumar visited the district hospital and met the injured passengers and reviewed the treatment arrangements.
The District Magistrate directed the hospital authorities to ensure best possible treatment to the injured. The administration also said that passengers who have been discharged or who are fit to travel will be provided transportation to their respective destinations by the district administration. (ANI)
