Boat in trouble, Coast Guard took immediate action

According to a statement issued by the Indian Coast Guard, at around 1600 hours, Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet received a VHF RT distress call from a fishing boat located approximately 33 nautical miles off Suratkal coast. It was reported that due to rough sea conditions the boat was filling rapidly with water and its structure was damaged, putting the lives of all six crew members in immediate danger.

Acting without any delay, ICG immediately diverted the ship to render assistance and reached the distressed boat within 90 minutes. The rescue operation was carried out in extremely bad weather conditions. Turbulent seas, strong winds, poor visibility and increasing darkness made the mission quite complex, requiring exceptional navigational skills, precision and coordination from the rescuers.

The operation was successful with courage and modern technology

Despite these formidable challenges, the crew of ICGS Sachet executed the mission with remarkable efficiency. Backed by unwavering determination and advanced rescue technology, the team deployed remote-operated lifebuoys specially designed for use in rough sea conditions to safely reach and rescue the stranded fishermen.

By 1800 hours, seamless coordination of highly skilled personnel ensured that all six crew members were rescued safely and without any injuries. After the successful rescue, ICGS Sachet is currently entering New Mangalore to safely disembark the rescued crew and complete further formalities.

This operation is a testament to the Indian Coast Guard’s unwavering commitment to protect life at sea. It highlights the effective integration of modern technology with the courage, training and professionalism of the Coast Guard personnel in dealing with the most demanding maritime emergencies. The press release further said that the Indian Coast Guard stands firm on its motto, “Vayam Raksham” (We Protect), and maintains constant vigil over India’s maritime domain and ensures timely assistance to persons in distress at sea.
