In a post on X, Dhami said, “We have received the extremely sorrowful news of the demise of Lieutenant General M.M. Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Seth also expressed his condolences over the passing away of former Mizoram and Puducherry Governor Lieutenant General MM Lakhera (Retd.), stating that his invaluable contribution to serving Mother India as a skilled military officer and thereafter to the nation’s development while holding constitutional positions will always be remembered.
“The news of the passing of Lieutenant General (Retired) M.M. Lakeda Ji, former Governor of Mizoram and Puducherry, is extremely heartbreaking. His invaluable contribution to serving Mother India as a skilled military officer and thereafter to the nation’s development while holding constitutional positions will always be remembered. A Distinguished Career
Lieutenant General MM Lakhera (Retd.) had served as the Governor of Mizoram and Puducherry after a distinguished career in the Indian Army. Born in the village of JAKHAND, Patti BARJULA, Tehri Garhwal, on October 21, 1937, he took part in the Goa operation in 1961 and the Indo-Pakistan wars of 1965 and 1971 in the Jammu and Kashmir sector.
He took over as Lieutenant Governor and Administrator of Puducherry on July 07, 2004. He was the first person from the Garhwal Division to hold a Governor’s appointment. As Lt Governor of Puducherry, he played a key role in relief and rehabilitation efforts following the tsunami, personally monitoring the progress and ensuring effective assistance to affected people.
He was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on additional charge and was administered the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy on November 29, 2005, becoming the ninth Lt Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
He took over as Governor of Mizoram on July 25, 2006. On assuming charge, he visited all district headquarters to understand ground-level issues and familiarise himself with public concerns. (ANI)
