Delhi successfully met record power demand of 8,748 MW on Monday. According to Power Minister Ashish Sood, this historic demand was fulfilled without any major interruption or failure due to the strong power grid and the government’s Power Master Plan.
Delhi on Monday successfully met its highest ever peak power demand of 8,748 MW, surpassing the previous record of 8,656 MW. Delhi government’s power minister Ashish Sood said that there was no major power cut or transmission failure during this period.
Electricity Minister gave credit to Power Master Plan
In a statement, Sood said the capital’s power network handled this unprecedented demand without any interruption. He attributed this achievement to the government’s Power Master Plan and continuous investment in strengthening transmission and distribution infrastructure.
“Today, Delhi has created history by successfully meeting the highest ever peak power demand of 8,748 MW. This has broken the previous record of 8,656 MW recorded on June 19, 2024,” the minister said. He said the city’s uninterrupted power supply during record demand reflects the resilience of the power network.
Sood said, “The real achievement today is not just the record-breaking figures, but the fact that the entire city continued to function normally. Our robust power network remained strong with zero breakdowns or major infrastructure failures. Such milestones often go unnoticed as the lights remain on, and this is the ultimate testament to our efforts.”
The minister said this achievement marks a marked change from the power infrastructure challenges in previous years. He credited the planning and implementation of the present government for ensuring uninterrupted power supply. He further said, “This historic achievement is a direct result of our government’s carefully crafted Power Master Plan and consistent investment in upgrading Delhi’s transmission and distribution grid. It is an example of proactive and effective governance focused on providing 24×7 uninterrupted power to every citizen of the national capital.”
Record breaking demand in figures
According to the release, Delhi’s power network successfully managed the record demand without any major infrastructure failure despite heavy load on the transmission system.
According to the State Load Despatch Center (SLDC), today’s figure surpassed the previous all-time high of 8,656 MW recorded on June 19, 2024. This latest peak demand is 92 MW more than the previous record and 306 MW more than the highest demand recorded in 2025, when the capital’s peak power demand reached 8,442 MW on June 12, 2025. (ANI)
