After the 49th meeting of the National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), some such details have come to light, which have given wings to the hopes of lakhs of employees. In this meeting chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, 5 such major recommendations have been made, which can be beneficial for all the employees including women employees and senior citizens (pensioners). Maternity Benefits for Female Employees
To improve the working environment for women central employees, a demand has been made to strictly implement all the provisions of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961. If it gets full green signal, then women employees will get great relief.
Pension revision for pensioners every 5 years
At present, pensioners have to wait for a long time for their pension to be revised, but now there has been a demand that the pension should be enhanced every 5 years. Along with this, in view of medical expenses, it is recommended to increase the Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) to ₹ 3,000 per month.
Higher Family Pension
There is also a big proposal regarding family pension to be received by the family of employees or pensioners after their death. There is a demand that the family pension should not be limited to 30% of the notional pay of the deceased employee, but it should be increased further so that the family does not have to face financial crisis.
Benefit of pay fixation after MACP
It has been advocated to increase the benefits of pay fixation under FR-22(1)(a)(1) for employees promoted after availing the benefit of Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme (MACP).
Pay Parity for Firefighters
There has been a demand to bring the pay scales of firefighters working under the Central Government at par with the Delhi Fire Service, which may lead to a big jump in their salaries.
Why is the month of July special?
The month of July is going to prove to be a turning point for this commission. The 8th Pay Commission is all set for its next discussions and consultations. During this period, important meetings are going to be held with employee unions and associations in two big cities of the country. Meetings will be held in Bhubaneswar on 6-7 July and Kolkata on 9-10 July. If other unions also strongly support these 5 demands in the meetings held in these cities, then the pressure on the government to implement them may increase. Let us tell you that this commission was formed on 3 November 2025. Now about 10 months are left for the Commission to submit its final recommendations to the government.
