Dahod (Gujarat): Farmers in Gujarat are now increasingly adopting cow-based natural farming to reduce the cost of farming and improve soil health. Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) project is helping them in this.
In Dahod district, farmers like Narendrabhai Hatila are doing natural farming based on desi cows after taking training under the ATMA project. Instead of chemical fertilizers, they use natural fertilizers like Jeevamrit and Ghan Jeevamrit made from desi cow dung and cow urine. With this method, not only the cost of farming has reduced, but the fertility of the soil has also increased and farming has become profitable in the long run.
The cost of natural farming is negligible
Speaking to ANI, farmer Narendrabhai Hatila said that the expenses in natural farming are negligible and it is completely dependent on desi cows. He said that with the help of one desi cow, natural farming can be done on up to 30 acres of land. According to him, this practice not only restores the health of the soil damaged by excessive use of chemicals, but also benefits humans and the environment, and also significantly reduces the cost of farming.
Farmers’ income is doubling every year
The Agriculture Department, through the ATMA project, is promoting natural farming by providing training, technical advice, model farms and financial assistance to farmers. Taluka Project Manager of ATMA Project, Chetan Kumar Rathod said that Narendrabhai has been associated with this project for the last seven years and is continuously doing natural farming. He said that the farmers got help through training and model farms at the district level. Rathore further said that Narendrabhai’s five-layer model farm consists of horticultural crops, vegetables and fruit crops, and he is earning a handsome annual income from cow-based natural farming without any chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

The company gives money to farmers for farming
Ramsingh Chauhan, technology manager of the ATMA project in Dahod, said that farmers doing desi cow-based natural farming in Dhanpur taluka get financial assistance of ₹ 10,800 annually under the ATMA project. He also informed that Bio-Resource Centers (BRCs) have also been established to ensure availability of natural products like Jeevamrit, Ghan Jeevamrit, Agni Astra and Brahmastra at the local level. Under the Mission Cluster Scheme, financial assistance of ₹1 lakh is given for setting up a BRC unit, while ₹60,000 is available under the non-mission category.
