Poison filled capsules and big conspiracy

  • Central Zone-I Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jayant Meena said that the accused has confessed to his crime. His intention was to distribute these poisonous capsules as pain medicine.
  • “During the Muharram procession in Byculla police station area, Mumbai Police spotted a suspicious man distributing capsules. His capsules were seized and the remaining details were noted down. 14,900 capsules have been seized so far,” he said.

The accused had bought 30,000 capsules for death

Meena further said, “Around 4 in the morning, a man named Salman fell ill after consuming one of the capsules. He started vomiting and having stomach pain. Adding to this, the police traced the suspect and arrested him. He confessed that it was a conspiracy to target the procession and cause harm to people on a large scale. He had purchased 50 kg of zinc phosphide and 30,000 empty capsules. He was in Mumbai for the last 15 days. He was filling these capsules while staying in the hospital. His plan was to distribute them as pain relievers.”

14,900 poisonous capsules seized

“Due to the promptness of Mumbai Police, a major tragedy and possible loss of life was averted. 14,900 capsules have been seized so far, investigation of the remaining capsules and chemicals is still going on. The accused is into paint business and had procured the chemicals through his business. The capsules were ordered by him online. His foreign travel links and possible associates in Mumbai are also being investigated.”
