Recently, on the complaint of trust member Krishna Mohan, Ayodhya police has registered an FIR against eight people. These include the name of Tinnu Yadav, who is said to be close to Champat Rai. It is alleged that transparency was not maintained in the appointment of employees counting the offerings and many appointments were made on the basis of kinship.

How was Ram Mandir Trust formed?

After the 2019 decision of the Supreme Court, the Central Government had formed Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. This independent trust was entrusted with the responsibility of temple construction, donation collection, operation and management. Initially 15 members were included in the Trust, which included representatives of Sant Samaj, administrative officials and social sector.

Why was Champat Rai’s role important?

Being the General Secretary, Champat Rai was considered to have an important role in most of the administrative and operational decisions of the Trust. It is alleged that there was a lack of transparency in the appointment of employees and the daily operations of the Trust. However, the final conclusion on these allegations will come only after the investigation and legal process is completed.

Trust surrounded by which allegations?

Mainly three questions are arising in the current controversy. First, the lack of transparency in the operation of the trust. Second, questions on the record and receipt system related to donations and offerings. Third, the discussion about timely action not being taken despite allegations against some people associated with the trust. Earlier in the year 2020-21 also, controversies related to purchase of land on the trust had come to the fore. However, at that time the Trust had denied the allegations.

After the resignation of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, three posts are now vacant in the Trust. The tenure of the construction committee is also nearing its end. In such a situation, it is believed that in the coming times, major changes may be seen in the functioning and structure of the trust.

At the time of formation of the Trust, it was declared an independent trust. In such a situation, the appointment of new members and further decisions will be taken as per the rules and internal procedure of the Trust. At present, everyone’s eyes are on what new changes emerge in the trust after the investigation.
